Unleash your creativity and develop communication skills in our engaging and fun workshops. This beginner-friendly class is designed to introduce you to the world of improvisational theatre, where spontaneity, teamwork, and fun take centre stage.

What to expect:

A Fun and Supportive Environment: Our experienced teachers will guide you through the fundamentals of improv in a relaxed, non-judgmental setting. No prior experience is required — just bring your enthusiasm and willingness to learn!

Teamwork and Collaboration: In our workshops, you’ll work with fellow participants to create unique, unscripted scenes. Listening, sharing, and building on each other’s ideas are essential skills you’ll develop throughout the course.

Skill Building: Through various exercises and games, you’ll learn the core principles of improv, such as “Yes, and…”, active listening, and thinking on your feet. These skills not only enhance your stage presence but also improve your everyday communication and interpersonal abilities.

About your teacher

Greg Lavell

Greg’s passion for improv theatre is rooted in his background as a jazz pianist. Since discovering improv in 2010, he has become an accomplished improviser, teacher and director in Melbourne’s burgeoning improv scene. In 2022, Greg founded Melbourne Unscripted, where he helps to develop creative unscripted formats to bring out spontaneity and theatricality in performers.

Greg has directed and performed in hit unscripted shows including the acclaimed Noir Unscripted and Cabaret Unscripted, the latter earning a nomination for Best Cabaret at the 2023 Melbourne Fringe Festival. Greg’s talent and creativity on stage as an improviser in both comedic and dramatic styles has been a highlight of the Melbourne improv community.

As an instructor, Greg draws on over a decade of experience to introduce playful yet powerful techniques that allow students to tap into the spirit of improv. With a relaxed, open and direct teaching style, Greg is a dedicated and engaging improv teacher who helps students find their own unique improvisational voice across both comedic and dramatic styles.
